What do you think we can learn about America by studying its authors? You might want to write your response to this first part before you begin this week’s reading.
2. Secondly, read through our Native American literature for this week. How do these Native American myths and poems compare to what you presented in the first part of the question?

1 day ago- I think that American literature is a collection of stories written in America in the English language that started during the colonial period. I think that American literature tells the history from The native Americans till now.  The types of themes that are involved with American literature include religion, the American dream, poetry, and biographies. I think that we can learn what went on in America and how people really felt about it. I think that we can also learn where the stories started from and how they have evolved into what they are today. 
After reading the Native American myths and poems I think there is more to American literature than just being in the English language. I think that American literature is the study of all Americans that were born here or settled here and the stories that have been passed down through the native american tribes or from the English settlers. The reading presented myths about how the Iroquois were created or how the Navajo tribe were created. On page 35 it states “The Navajo have produced a rich body of oral literature- narrative and poetry- including several written versions of the Navajo creation story.”  I think that this is important because the Navajo have contributed poetry and narratives to the American literature culture. It also states there are different versions of the Navajo creation story and I think this is important because in American culture there are always different versions to stories based on how it is adapted from different people and different cultures.
