Task
Write an analytical essay of 1200-1400 words comparing and contrasting any three of the following stories and focusing on the theme of freedom/self-determination: “Hills Like White Elephants,” “Borders,” “The Yellow Wallpaper,” “Paul’s Case,” or “The Metamorphosis.”
Your essay must develop a detailed thesis, providing evidence from the stories to support your claims. Analyze your evidence carefully, considering elements of theme, characterization, setting, and symbolism. You must consult a minimum of three scholarly research sources for this paper. If you borrow any idea(s) and/or language from any external source, including your instructor, you must cite this. Review the course outline for more information on academic honesty and plagiarism. Do not attempt to submit an essay plagiarized from online or other sources.
Format
Use MLA style as noted in the 8th edition of the MLA Handbook. Choose a 12-point Arial or Times New Roman font and double-space. An MLA guide is available at the VCC library and online.
