In this assignment, you will work individually to write and then deliver a news conference that speaks to the health disparities in your community.

Limit your recording to 10 minutes or less.

Purpose

To craft a persuasive and well-researched communication tool to your community that addresses the existing health disparities and how your organization will address them. This assignment helps you build on multiple competencies:

• Collaboration

Steps

1. Read Chapters 2 & 11 in your text plus all other lesson material
   • You will refer to both chapters in your text when creating the assignment (examples – use them as a rationale, support for your assertions in addition to the CHNA material for your area. Be sure to use the appropriate language – much of which can be found in your textbook chapters).
2. Search for the Community Health Needs Assessment from your area (the county is typically how they are done).
   • If you live in a different country or region use the needs assessment from your area. I want you to learn about your community through this assignment while you build skills in reading the report and translating data for communication to your stakeholders.
3. Create a written script for your news/press conference.
   • Audience: The community you live or work in.
   • Topic: The health disparities in your community and what your health care organization will do to address them.
   • Your role: You choose – Identify if you are the CEO, COO, CFO, CIO, VP of Communications, VP of Patient Care Services, or VP of Medical Staff.
   • Content: The minimum you must cover.
     • Discuss the various disparities evident in the delivery of medical services in your chosen area (remember to refer to your book chapters as well as the CHNA)
       • Be specific in quantifying 3 or more disparity categories
     • Discuss the scope of the problem.
       • Cite evidence as to causes.
     • Discuss plausible, specific solutions that are innovative and on target to make a difference in your community
     • Describe the specific team (roles) you have assembled from the community to see the plan through- who would you get involved in this project – who are the stakeholders?
4. Record yourself giving the conference using Zoom- Translate the script into a compelling, coherent, and passionate message
   • Zoom instructions
   • Dress appropriately and remember to keep in mind good public speaking skills.
   • You do not need a podium or any other props.
   • DO NOT READ the script – you may read stats. Reading the material  will result in a loss of 20 points
