Purpose
The Constitution created a government to take on important responsibilities, which necessitated the creation of departments, bureaus, and agencies (the bureaucracy). This assignment allows you to consider your own experiences and reflect on the textbook to offer a strength and a weakness of a federal bureaucracy entity as it exists today.
Directions
Please follow the discussion guidelines found in  Lesson 2 Discussion  to complete the assignment.
IMPORTANT: For this and all assignments in this class, proper citation guidelines should be followed.
NOVA’s Library team can help with this, and you can find out more about getting in touch with them on the NOVA Library website (Links to an external site.).
The Library has more specific help on how to cite sources and avoid plagiarism (Links to an external site.).
You will see a number of different guide options, like APA, MLA, and Chicago/Turabian.  You can work with whichever one you like, but just be consistent with it in any paper or assignment.  It is highly recommended to use parenthetical in-text citations with a “works cited” or “references” list at the end of the paper, rather than footnotes throughout the paper.  The different guides will explain all of that.  It is also important to follow these guides when it comes to properly formatting the overall paper or assignment (though paper formatting is not applicable for discussion board assignments, and only useful when submitting Word doc files).
Part I: Initial ResponseReview the descriptions of bureaucratic strengths and weaknesses in the textbook. Explain the following: What is a strength of a bureaucracy you have encountered or learned about? What is a weakness or bad experience you have encountered or learned about? You’ll need to write at least two “meaty” paragraphs, one paragraph for the strength, and one paragraph for the weakness. That makes two. 🙂 Please make sure to spell check and proof read. Grammar matters. Each of your examples should be briefly explained with a few sentences that form a complete paragraph. Bullet point lists do not work here. You must use the textbook and its descriptions of bureaucratic strengths and weaknesses, and apply those points to current or past examples in government. You need to properly cite all of your resources using a scholarly resource method, like Turabian, MLA, APA, or Chicago.Part II: Comments
Respond to at least one of your peers’ postings. Ask questions or offer an alternative view with supporting evidence.  Each response should be a paragraph with a few sentences in it. Ask questions about their experiences or arguments. Or explain why you think differently. Or why you chose something similar but for different reasons.
