Each student will create a presentation using any platform of your choosing.
Option 1:
Create a presentation that analyzes a song or playlist of songs (not to exceed 5 songs*) that addresses a criminological or societal issue. You are to analyze the lyrics using one criminological theory. You should link particular song lyrics to the principal points in your chosen theory. Your presentation should include:
1.     An accurate description of the theory highlighting the main points.
2.     Strengths and weaknesses of the theory.
3.     Clear examples of how lyrics and the theory are linked.
4.     Conclusion/big picture idea.
*If you choose multiple songs, make sure that adequately discuss the theory and don’t skim over the information. I am looking for depth.
Option 2:
Create a presentation that analyzes one social media account (or hashtag) that informs the public about a policy or a movement linked to a criminal justice or social justice issue. The account can be from any platform of your choosing (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TikTok). You are to analyze the content/posts in the social media account using one criminological theory to explain the importance of the policy or movement in addressing your chosen issue. You should link particular posts or content to the principal points in your chosen theory.
Your presentation must include:
1.     An accurate description of the theory highlighting the main points.
2.     Strengths and weaknesses of the theory.
3.     Clear examples of how the content portrayed in the social media account and the theory are linked.
4.     Conclusion/big picture idea.
Option 3:
Create a presentation that analyzes a television show or movie via a criminological theory. This option is similar to what we have read throughout the semester, though you cannot choose the same show or movie from our text. You are to analyze the show or film using one criminological theory. You should link particular clips, themes, or character(s) to the principal points in your chosen theory. Your presentation should include:
1.     An accurate description of the theory highlighting the main points.
2.     Strengths and weaknesses of the theory.
3.     Clear examples of how show/film and the theory are linked.
4.     Conclusion/big picture idea.
Guidelines for all options:
1.     Choose a medium for your presentation (e.g., PowerPoint, FlipGrid, Prezi). Just make sure I can access it to grade.
2.     Provide detailed speaker notes for each slide/section of your presentation.
Notes must be provided in the notes section or on a separate document (i.e., Word or pdf) and NOT in the slides themselves.
Speaker notes should be least 1-2 paragraphs per slide/section. Speaker notes per slide should fully explain the details of the information on each slide/section. Think of them as a short essay for each slide/section.
Speaker notes must use in-text citations in APA format.
4.     At the very minimum, you must have an 1) introduction slide, 2) at least 5 content slides (you can have more), and 3) reference slide
5.     Use at least 3 academic references
6.     In-text citations where necessary on slides and/or speaker notes
