– First, Rough Draft of your Final Research Argumentative Essay about Civic Engagement
To help organize your documented, argumentative research essay, you should construct your essay so that you:
First, establish the topic for your reader. Assume your reader is intelligent, but has yet to make an informed, sound decision about how your topic matters to civic engagement.
Make it clear why you believe this topic is important.
A) Explain how this issue relates to civic engagement by giving the history: for example, if your topic is social media, describe and give examples of how Americans used to get/obtain information. Perhaps even explore specific elections and how you believe voters were influenced. Mention what kinds of information people used to get from such a source.
B) Explain/prove what has changed when it comes to your topic, and whether it has changed for all voters or particular groups. This would mean history/perhaps examples from specific elections- or even the history of techniques, organizations, movements…et.
Second, describe (claim) what your research has taught you about the topic.
Explain what kind of information you find in an organized fashion.
Inform the reader of your assumptions as you began your research, what types of sources you added, what surprised you as you researched (the process of digging in). Have at least three supporting points for why your position is the best on the chosen issue.
Third, present your research thoroughly and clearly state the point(s) being proven/shown at the beginning of each paragraph. In doing so, you will:
Acknowledge the opposing opinions.
Follow up with counter arguments for each opposing argument made.
Prove your points with credible and relevant facts, quotes, anecdotes, and statistics from your research. CITE YOUR SOURCES!
Lastly, conclude by reemphasizing your position, making predictions or even proposals, and offering your reader something to consider for the future. This conclusion section can consist of two paragraphs but is often one solid paragraph that leaves the readers with lasting thoughts.
