Assignment: Introduction As a financial analyst for FinSys Enterprises, Inc., your responsibility
Assignment:
Introduction
As a financial analyst for FinSys Enterprises, Inc., your responsibility is to use Alteryx to analyze various financial datasets and provide insights to the CFO. The company is concerned about potential issues within its financial operations such as inefficiencies, data inconsistencies, and/or irregularities. Your job is to clean, analyze, and integrate the data, then identify potential problems and recommend solutions.
Project Objectives
Use Alteryx to clean, transform, and integrate datasets related to Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Vendor Master List, and Employee Directory.
Perform detailed analyses to identify trends, anomalies, or inefficiencies.
Create summaries to communicate your findings effectively.
Provide actionable recommendations to the CFO based on your analysis.
Datasets Provided
You will work with the following datasets:
Accounts Payable (AP): Includes vendor names, invoice numbers, amounts, payment dates, payment terms, and payment statuses.
Payment Terms:
Standard payment terms include “Net 15,” “Net 30,” “Net 45,” and “Net 60.” Payments made beyond these terms are considered late and should be flagged.
Duplicate Invoice Rule:
Invoice numbers should be unique for each vendor.
Accounts Receivable (AR): Includes customer names, invoice numbers, invoice dates, payments received, adjustments, and account statuses.
Aging Buckets:
Invoices should be categorized into aging buckets: Current, 30-60 days, 60-90 days, and 90+ days overdue.
Overdue invoices (60+ days) require special attention as they impact cash flow.
Adjustments:
Adjustments above $1,000 must include documentation or managerial approval.
General Ledger (GL): Includes transaction IDs, accounts, debit/credit amounts, dates, and descriptions.
Transaction Matching:
Transactions in the GL should reconcile with AP and AR datasets.
Account Descriptions:
Standardized descriptions include “Invoice,” “Payment,” “Adjustment,” and “Refund.”
Vendor Master List: Includes vendor names, Tax IDs, payment terms, registration dates, and risk levels.
Required Vendor Details:
Every vendor must have a Tax ID, payment terms, and a registration date.
Risk Levels:
Vendors marked as “High Risk” in the risk level field require additional approval before payment.
Employee Register: Includes employee names, IDs, expense dates, reimbursement amounts, departments, and approval statuses.
Approval Threshold for Reimbursements:
Any reimbursement above $2,000 requires managerial approval.
Department Budgeting:
Certain departments (e.g., “Sales”) have higher expense limits due to travel needs.
Project Tasks
Your project consists of the following tasks. Pay close attention to the details in each dataset as you look for patterns or anomalies.
Task 1: Data Preparation and Cleansing
Import all datasets into Alteryx and review their structure.
Clean the data to address issues such as missing values, inconsistent formats, and duplicate records.
Annotate your Alteryx workflow to explain your steps.
Task 2: Data Integration
Join datasets where appropriate to create a unified financial dataset.
Ensure that data across the datasets reconciles properly (e.g., AP and AR records align with the General Ledger).
Task 3: Data Analysis
Perform detailed analyses to uncover trends, anomalies, or inconsistencies. Data should be reconciled across datasets and irregularities flagged.
Examples of analyses you might consider: overdue payments, payment terms compliance, AR aging, and expense claim patterns.
Use Alteryx tools to summarize key metrics.
Task 4: Report and Recommendations
Write a brief report summarizing your findings. Include the following sections: Introduction, Key Findings, and Recommendations.
Provide actionable recommendations to address the issues you identified. For example, suggest process improvements, internal controls, or other corrective actions.
Document how you identified issues and any thresholds or rules used.
Explain your reasoning behind any flagged anomalies and your proposed recommendations to address them.
You might consider replicating parts of your IT Audit Report for the StellanTEK assignment.
Additional Deliverables (besides annotated workflow
A written report (2-3 pages) explaining your analysis and recommendations
A single PPT slide that bullets your findings and proposed solutions

INTRODUCTION
In this project, I am working as a financial analyst for FinSys Enterprises, Inc., where it is my duty to use Alteryx to clean as well as identify financial trends or potential issues. By thoroughly examining five of FinSys’s datasets – Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger, Vendor Master List, and Employee Directory – I will uncover trends, discrepancies, and provide actionable recommendations to enhance the company’s financial processes and operations. This report will be paired with an informative PowerPoint slide and integrated datasets through an Alteryx workflow.
KEY FINDINGS
Accounts Payable (AP)
Accounts payable seemed to be in order well. All of the payment terms were correctly marked, and there were none that needed to be considered late or that should have been flagged. Interestingly, all of the invoices were paid on the same day they were set. This could be an error so looking deeper into the AP records to confirm this information could be valuable. However, if this is accurate, it means the accounts payable team is doing a stellar job and likely has a great automated system in place to make all their payments on time. Furthermore, all of the invoice numbers were unique to each of the vendors.
