This Assignment has 3 parts that must be submitted. Please make sure all aspects of the assignment are complete.
Part 1Go to the link above for NutritionCalc diet analysis on Connect or just take any link to the McGraw Hill website and you will see the box for NutritionCalc to the right of the screen. You will be entering the food you have documented for 5 and saving a PDF of your All Daily Reports and selecting 5 days) (please note there is a step by step instruction sheet in this folder on how to use this program as well as a video on the program itself):
1. Enter your profile
2. Enter your 5 Day recall in the Intakes Tab (make sure each day is entered as a separate day)
3. Enter activities to verify your activity level you selected on your profile
4. Go to Reports and select “All daily Reports”
5. Click the 5 days you just entered and then the “update preview” button
6. Go to the upper right hand corner and change format to PDF (not HTML)
7. Save the report to either Canvas or your hard drive (you can also email it to yourself)
8. If you did not save the report directly into the Canvas Assignment folder designated for this assignment, please go in and attach it to the document.
I also want to caution you that if your recommended intake does not match your recorded intake, you may need to do adjustments before you start on part 2. If your intake is more then 10 to 15% off from what was recommended on the low end, you either over estimated your activity level or under estimated what you ate. Either way, it is not accurate and you should fix it. Example: If the NutritionCalc program recommended that you should have 2000 Calories a day and your recorded intake says you eat 1000 Calories a day, this would cause you to lose around 2 to 3 pounds per week so it could not be accurate. If your weight is stable, your intake should roughly equal your recommended intake. On this part of the activity, you have an opportunity to more accurately calculate your Calorie needs so it may be helpful to do these calculations and then go back and adjust your activity level etc in NutritionCalc.

Important: Your assignment should reflect a normal intake so please do not record your days when you are sick or there is a abnormal situation. Part 2 allows you to calculate your Calories in addition to NutritionCalc. These numbers should be close to the same and your intake should be very careful to those numbers as well. If it is not, you have either over estimated your needs or underestimated what you ate (this is the most common situations as most people underestimate what they eat by about 25%). I would be happy to review Part 1 before moving on to Part 2 and 3 if you message or email me before the assignment is due.
Part 2In part 2 of your assignment, you will need to take your print out (PDF from NutritionCalc…. this document should be around 15 to 20 pages (but it could be a little shorter or longer depending on how many foods you entered) and complete the word document provided in Assignment #1 under the Assignments tab. Most of the information you will need, will be in the first 2 to 3 pages of the report. Complete the word document attached to this file for both the energy calculations, protein calculations, and the complete table. You can either cut and past those answers into the text box or submit the completed word document along with the PDF files. You need to compare what you took in vs. what was recommended for you. You will also need to provide SPECIFIC recommendations on the diet changes you would make to meet those needs in the last column. Please do not say “I need to eat more healthy fat or eat less fatty foods”. I want you to give me specific foods you ate, you would decrease and/ or add. Please note that the report will not contain the recommendations for either sugar or omega 3 fatty acids so you will need to look those up and provide the information for full credit.

Part 3Part 3 is your opportunity to include or exclude the foods you identified in Part 2. The easiest way to do this is to take your 2 most typical days of food of your 5 days in NutritionCalc and make the modifications to that day. You will not be able to get 100% in all areas but you must demonstrate improvement in as many areas as possible. You must submit a complete PDF report of your daily average for this section as well.
Please label your documents as Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 when you submit them into this folder.
Submitting the AssignmentYou will need to submit all 3 documents in the same box in the Canvas assignment box (see the link below to submit multiple documents on Canvas). You will be submitting your Part 1 PDF that includes 5 days of food, Part 2 in either a docx format or PDF and your Part 3 2 day PDF.
