Journals will generally be framed in a reflective tone and style but please include quotes from our readings as necessary. Each journal should generally be about 2 pages (MLA style, double-spaced).
This week I want you to discuss Plato’s Allegory of the Cave and the Our Perceptions article.
According to Plato’s allegory – how do humans react to different ideas about the nature of reality (or “truth”)? What evidence in the allegory helped you come to this conclusion? Do you agree with Plato’s assessment of human nature? Be sure to use examples from your own life and/or human history that show the true nature of humanity. Finally, address the “McGurk Effect” video (found in the “Our Perceptions” article that I wrote in the Week 1 Module) – what is the lesson of this video and do you think we can trust our perceptions?
Please only use quotes from our reading from our course readings found on our module homepage. Do not “google” quotes or quotes from secondary and/or online sources. If you do so, it will result in a deduction from your overall grade on this assignment.
