First problem:
Write the formulas for the following compounds:
a. lithium carbonate Li2CO3
b. sodium perchlorate NaClO4
c. barium hydroxide Ba(OH)2
d. ammonium carbonate (NH4)2CO3
e. sulfuric acid H2SO4
f. calcium acetate C4H6CaO4
g. magnesium phosphate Mg3(PO4)2
h. sodium sulfite Na2SO3
Second Problem:
Consider this question: What mass of a concentrated solution of nitric acid (68.0% HNO3 by mass) is needed to prepare 400.0 g of a 10% solution of HNO3 by mass?
a. Outline the steps necessary to answer the question.
b. answer the question.
a. To answer this question I followed the steps in the book that state that you must first define the information that was given, and using the equation c1 v1=c2 v2; I determined that c1=68.0 HNO3, v2=400.0g, and c2=10.0%. So my task is to find the value of v1.
b. v1= (10.0)(400.0) v1=58.82
(68.0)
