Assignment : Everyday Examples of Marketing
Semester Value: 40 points (Two examples worth 20 points each.)
In our Marketing course, it is important to move past the language of Marketing to understanding
and recognizing its application in everyday life.
To encourage you to do so, we will be sharing current event examples over the course of the
semester.
To receive credit for this assignment, you will post a video or written submission into a Canvas
discussion forum. You will need to be familiar with your selection to offer an overview of your
example, correctly identify and explain the specific marketing theory it demonstrates and answer
any questions from the class or your instructor.
There are a few basic rules to this assignment.
• Your example needs to be current, and for our class, current means dated after July 1,
2020.
• Examples can be from a number of sources: newspapers, magazines, business periodicals,
TV, Internet, personal consumer experience and social media. Your selections need to be
business course appropriate. Your example, along with complete source identification,
will be posted in our Discussion Forum. It is a good idea to prepare multiple examples to
share in case a classmate shares an example you had planned to use.
• You may choose to record a video, design a slide presentation or write an essay for the
structure of your discussion post. No matter the format, please be mindful that your work
should demonstrate college-level effort.
• Everyone will share two examples this semester. You cannot share both of your
examples in the same week, and you cannot wait until the very end of the semester to
submit your examples.
• We will limit the number of examples to twelve (12) students/week. This schedule will
encourage good examples to come into the course weekly.
• To encourage you to start your current event work early in the semester, your first due
date is on or before week 8 and another example is due on or before week 14. A missed
due date results in the loss of points associated with this assignment.
