Part 1
Given the linear equation y=2x 5y=2x 5 answer the following questions.
Does the line go through (0, 0)? Without seeing a graph of the line, how do you know whether it goes through (0,0)?
Graph the line on the standard window (-10<x<10, -10<y<10). Sketch what you see on your paper. If you have the TI-84/83 use grey Window or Zoom buttons.
Use the Table function (in the upper right of your calculator) to evaluate the function when x=-2, when x=0, and when x=5.
Part 2
Graph the equation −6x 2y=10−6x 2y=10.
What equation will you enter into your calculator? Note: Your calculator will only graph things in terms of “y=…”. This means you’ll have to solve the equation for y before you put it in your calculator. Show your work.
Compare and contrast this graph to the graph from the previous problem. Be specific.
Part 3
Graph y=−23x 12y=−23x 12. Make sure you use the negative, rather than subtraction, button when entering the equation.
What window dimensions (x-min, x-max, y-min, and y-max) do you need to adjust your window to be in order for the screen to show/capture both the x and y-intercept of the line? Note that there are many possible windows that will work, just give me one that you found that captures both intercepts. (Don’t forget to reset your window back to a standard screen after you do this problem.)
Does the −2/3−2/3 and the 1212 have any connection to the graph? Explain.
GradingThis assignment is worth 30 points total. There are 7 problems, each worth 4 points. The final 2 points will be for answering the questions in complete sentences when necessary.
For full credit on each individual problem be sure to fully explain, show your work, and include detail when asked to do so.
