In Chapter 1 of the G&H text (Effective Communication in CRJ), there are four types of communication styles that criminal justice professional’s use discussed (blaming, directing, persuading, & problem solving). Keeping this in mind, please reflect on, and answer the following questions:
Communication plays a foundational role in the criminal justice process, from maintaining public trust to ensuring officer safety. Reflect on and discuss how effective communication impacts daily operations in criminal justice. (Label as 1a) In what ways can poor communication lead to misunderstandings or complications in this field? In answering this questions, be sure to provide at least one example to support your perspective. (Label as 1b)
The chapter outlines four communication styles (i.e., blaming, directing, persuading, and problem-solving). Which of these styles do you think aligns best with your personal approach, and why? In doing so, include examples from the text to support your choice.
Every communication style has unique strengths that can be leveraged in professional settings.
