Hello this essay is based on hemingway’s book titled In our time.
Here is some information about me as it may be needed to write this essay. My first name is Minehli (named after Liza Minelli). My last name is Shahbazian and it comes from Armenian origin. I am an 18 year old college student in Los Angeles. I graduated high school early as an honor student my junior year. If any other information is needed in order to write the book, let me know! The full book is linked in the files.
Here are two ways to look at the topic for essay #1
1.Write an essay in which you explore how your story compares to any Heminway story from the collection In Our Time. You need to analyze some theme, or issue that you see in both the stories. This could be something such as the symbolism, the characters, and/or a commentary of some kind you see in both stories about humanity. You must refer to yourself by last name just like you would any author of a story or book. You could compare the differences in male characters or female and male characters. You need to find some way to analyze the two stories. You could look at the use of point of view or setting (or any of those seven elements of fiction)—you could look for a philosophical idea that each story explores about humanity. It seems that Hemingway is making a commentary about war, relationships, the differences between men and women, gender and sexualtiy, industrialization, capitalism, the changes in America after WWI, about impotentancey, apathy, cruelty, colonialism and humanity—how does this compare to what your story is commenting on? You need to find something that gets to the deeper meaning of your story and a Hemingway story—and utilize some of the elements of fiction to do so as well as using quotes and passages from each story for support.
2.The title for Hemingway’s most famous short story collection is In Our Time, pointing to a thematic and/or symbolic connection with the world (particularly America) specifically after WWI. Hemingway is trying to get at the human condition in america after the war—and this helps give rise to the Modernist movement in literature—that came out of the “Lost Generation.” And your own story may examine a different time period and place—or further explore what Hemingway was getting at—both works, as you are comparing one of his stories with your own story based or infulenced by one of his stories, have something to reveal about how certain individuals, due to social, historical, and personal circumstances, can feel themselves to be outsiders or contain some kind of otherness. Compare and contrast what your story (put your last name here) and a Hemingway story—what do the stories reveal about isolation, aloneness, nonconformity, class, materialism, self-centeredness vs. selflessness, etc., by using specific references to the two texts to support your claims. Argue an overarching thesis about the central theme(s), character(s), and symbolism Heminway’s story and your own story incorporate into their fictions and what these features make readers reflect upon regarding social, historical, and/or personal isolation. This will be a specific analysis of a story by Hemingway and your story, whatever it is about…
