Ø Using
photos/ print images, found items/ objects, and any variety of dry (charcoal,
chalk, pastels, etc.) or wet medias (oil, acrylic, watercolor, inks, etc.) create
a collage to reflect some
commonly held belief (i.e. freedom, equality, etc.), a commonly shared
emotional state of being (i.e. anger, despair, etc.), or to make a social
commentary (i.e. human rights, nuclear disarmament, etc.).  Current events in the media, and or
controversial topics make good subjects; however, please be mindful of how
others may interpret your work.

For example, your work may choose to promote an idea
for the common good like a type of public service announcement, or to condemn
some social ill or injustice like Picasso’s masterpiece Guernica, where the artist condemns the atrocities of the Spanish
war.  Equally you may wish to emulate
Warhol’s use of images from popular culture to create your commentary like his
use of images in his silkscreen of “Race Riot” from 1963.

You may use any variety of methods to create your work
like papier collé, décollage (torn paper), 3-D collage, or bricolage
(assemblage). Minimum size requirements are 18”x18”.
