Read the chapter below on rhetorical analysis by Carroll and also the one by Jack Selzer. If you have to choose which one to really zoom in on, choose Selzer. His is much more useful, even though it is less accessible than Carroll’s. Write a one paragraph response to Carroll about what you find relevant and instructive.
In response to Selzer, write at least two substantive paragraphs about  which kind of analysis (contextual or textual) appeals to you most and why? Use evidence from the text to justify your ideas and answers, including reasons (as points of contrast) from the one you are not choosing.
