Week 1 discussion response to student
From labor and employment, to healthcare, to worker’s compensation, to unemployment and more – the constant fluctuations require a certain level of attention to stay up to date (Bennett-Alexander et al., 2021). Unfortunately, this is not an easy feat, especially if you are managing several states or countries where laws and policies differ. Because a uniformed or reliable database of information regarding the varying laws and policies does not exist, many human resource departments must keep track of the updated laws and policies by way of their own navigation. Many HR managers have created their own list of sites and associations to which they can receive updated emails and notifications when legislative changes occur. Some of these sites or associations include: Society for Human Resources Management, National Human Resources Association, SHRM, International Association for Human Resources Information Management, Human Capital Institute, and many more. The Department of Labor, SBA and HG.org are also great resources (Heathfield, 2020).
While these sites and associations are great resources with regular newsletters and updates that are sent regularly, the best way to stay abreast of important changes is to hire an employment law attorney. Hiring a professional who is knowledgeable and specializes in state and federal law is a great investment for a company and the human resources department (Heathfield, 2020).
