Short Answer- Answer the following questions using 5 or more complete sentences.

1) While national issues dominate the headlines, most government is done on the local level.
Answer the following questions based upon where you live:

-What is the most local form of government in your area?
-What officials make up government on a local level in your area?
-Who is your representative to the state House of Representatives?
-Who is your State Senator?

*Make sure that you’re listing your representatives in your state legislature, not the US House and Senate.

2) List five government funded services you rely on.  What would happen if these services stopped?

3) The services you listed on question two are funded through taxes. List and describe 3 different types of taxes that local governments rely on.

4) What local issues matter to you? Are there things that you wish would change or improve? One of the easiest ways, besides voting, is to write letters to your local officials and Congressman. Look at the news in your local community and find an issue you feel your local government should try to improve.

Examples of local issues include: Local use of money, penny taxes, building of parks, expanding of highways, bringing new business to your community, local funding for charter schools, body cameras for police officers, and others.
*If you are a student from outside the United States, answer the last two points by naming your local representatives to your national government.

5) What issue did you find? List three sources.  What is the issue and what would you like your local/state government to do about the issue?

6)  Who is your state Senator or House Representative? What is their address? What is their email?

7) Now, write a letter to your STATE Congressman or Senator asking that they get involved. Use the template below to write your letter.  Copy and paste your letter in the submit box to be graded.
