Case Study 2, Epidemiology of COVID-19
Which factors affect the case-fatality in different locations or countries? Which of these do you think has the greatest impact?
What are possible reasons that African Americans have an increased incidence of disease? What are possible reasons that African Americans have a higher case-fatality? Is there a factor that might explain both increased incidence and increased complications?
What are possible reasons that males have a higher case-fatality than females? Which of these do you think are most important?
Identify risk factors for developing complications of COVID-19. Which of the risk factors for developing severe COVID-19 do you think are most important in the outcome or prognosis of COVID-19?
Keep in mind that the SARS-CoV-2 virus has been mutating. Support your answers with credible research (if you use outside sources). Do you feel that the answers you post regarding SARS-CoV-2 also apply towards new variants of this virus?
